Gorgeous in Gray: A First-Floor Anchorage Remodel

Bailey Remodeling recently completed a fabulous first-floor remodel for a family in Anchorage. These homeowners now have the ultimate space to spend time together or entertain guests with an open layout, useful storage options, and a poolside bar and bathroom that will provide endless fun. The home features a common gray theme throughout for a clean, cohesive, and modern aesthetic.

Wide Open Spaces

By removing a wall, we created a bright and spacious open-concept kitchen and living room. The home’s mostly neutral décor and color palette allow eye-catching details to really pop — like the intricate geometric backsplash and the elegant globe pendant lighting. This space is a great example of how versatile gray can be. It’s soft and warm on the walls and furniture, while offering a bold, dramatic point of interest in the backsplash.

Spacious Storage

Just off the kitchen, we created a mudroom area and walk-in pantry, providing convenient storage options to keep these homeowners organized. No more scrambling in the morning — the floor-to-ceiling cubby area makes it easy for each family member to have their own space for shoes, coats, and accessories. The gray chevron tiled floor ties this area together with the rest of the first floor, including the poolside bar.

Poolside Convenience

No need to worry about drying off — this fantastic bar area right off the pool boasts tile flooring that’s easy to clean and dry. This area even has a bathroom with a shower, so when swimmers have had enough for the day, they can rinse off and dress without tracking water into the house. Here again, we see the gray motif in the unique waterfall countertop on the island and on the flooring throughout.

Open layouts provide excellent traffic flow and easier entertaining, but they require a talented design touch. A common element repeated throughout — such as the gray used in this home — keeps the design feeling connected and cohesive. How would you create a holistic feel in your home?
